Sinus passages often become blocked after surgery
Surgical procedures involving the sinuses and sinus passages often have a high level of trauma and bleeding associated with them. During the healing process, it is common for sinus passages to become blocked, requiring a subsequent surgical procedure to clear the blockage.
A bioresorbable solution to post-operative healing
Surgeons currently use silicone or other non-resorbable tubes to maintain clear openings of the sinus passages during the post-operative healing period. These tubes, however, must be removed, which causes additional trauma, discomfort and bleeding.
SinusShield™ Adhesion Prevention Film
SinusShield Adhesion Prevention Film represents another potential opportunity to leverage our bioresorbable film technology. We plan to evaluate the use of a coil of our polymer film to perform the same post-operative task as the silicone tubing, but without the need to subsequently remove the material. Now that FDA clearance to market has been received, we will seek to establish a marketing/distribution relationship with a company focused on the ENT surgical community.
