Richard L. Franklin, MD
Executive Chairman
Dr. Franklin has served as Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors since October 2008, Chairman since June 2003, and as a director since December 2000. Since September 2002, he has also been Chairman of DMS Data Systems, an internet-based information services company. From May 1996 to September 2002, Dr. Franklin was Chief Executive of Phairson, Ltd., a medical product development company. From January 1991 to May 1996, he was founder and principal of Richard Franklin & Associates and from January 1988 to December 1990, Dr. Franklin was with Boston Capital Group, both of which are consulting firms to the healthcare industry. From July 1986 to December 1987, he was head of Healthcare Corporate Finance at Tucker Anthony, an investment banking firm.
Robert P. Hickey
President & CEO
Chief Financial Officer
Robert Hickey has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer since May 1996, Chief Financial Officer since March 2000, and as a director since August 1996. He previously served as founder and president of Roberts Healthcare Resources, Inc., a management consulting firm. During a 19-year career with Johnson & Johnson, Mr. Hickey held executive positions in marketing, business development and finance, the last of which was as vice president of marketing for the Ethicon, Inc. subsidiary. He holds an MBA degree from Syracuse University.
Eli Pines, PhD
Vice President of Research & Chief Scientific Officer
Eli Pines served as the Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer from June 1995 to July 2000, and from March 2003 until the present. From July 2000 through February 2003, Dr. Pines continued his relationship with SyntheMed in a consulting capacity. Previously, he served as vice president and chief technical officer for Fibratek, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company. Dr. Pines completed a 17-year tenure with Johnson & Johnson by serving as the director of new products research and development with worldwide responsibilities for the Surgical Specialty Division of Johnson & Johnson Medical, Inc. Dr. Pines received his PhD degree in biophysics from Syracuse University and conducted post-doctoral research in biochemistry at The Rockefeller University.
John M. Benson, CPA
Controller
John Benson has served as Controller since September 2006. Prior to joining SyntheMed, he served as controller for the U.S. Spine Division of Stryker Corporation, a medical device company. Mr. Benson is a certified public accountant who received a BBA degree in accounting from St. Bonaventure University.
Gere S. diZerega, MD
Medical Director
Dr. diZerega has served as Medical Director since October 2008 and as a clinical advisor to the company since December 1995. Dr. diZerega is Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Women's Hospital, University of Southern California Medical Center and his areas of research include post-operative adhesions, peritoneal healing and post-surgical wound repair.
John S. Hoffer
Director of Quality Systems and Regulatory Affairs
John Hoffer has served as Director of Quality Systems and Regulatory Affairs since September 2005. He has over 20 years of regulatory, quality assurance and control and operations experience with medical device companies including BOC Gases, C.R. Bard, Inc. and Becton-Dickinson Company. Mr. Hoffer holds an MS in microbiology and a BS in biology, both from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Corinne Mundin
Director, International Market Development
Corinne Mundin has served as Director, International Market Development, based in the United Kingdom, since July 2008. Prior to joining SyntheMed, Ms. Mundin served as director of international sales for Novadaq Technologies. She also held international sales management positions with Chase Medical LLP and Guidant CVS. Ms. Mundin received her registered nursing degree from the Western Australia School of Nursing, Perth, Australia.
